X12 EDI

What is X12 EDI?

X12 EDI is a set of standards developed by the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 for the electronic exchange of business documents. It defines the format and structure for various transaction sets, such as purchase orders, invoices, and payment advisories, allowing different computer systems to communicate seamlessly. In the financial sector, X12 standards are widely used for electronic funds transfers (EFT) and health care claim payments.

Why It Matters

  • It automates the exchange of business documents between trading partners, reducing the need for manual data entry and paper-based processes.

  • The standardized format ensures that payment information is interpreted consistently by both the sender’s and the receiver’s banking systems.

  • Businesses can improve their cash flow management by using X12 EDI to accelerate the processing of invoices and the reconciliation of payments.
