What is Magic Number?

The SaaS Magic Number is a formula used to measure sales and marketing efficiency. It is calculated by taking the change in GAAP revenue between two quarters, annualizing it, and dividing it by the sales and marketing spend from the earlier quarter.

Why It Matters

  • A magic number above 1.0 generally indicates that the company should increase its investment in sales and marketing.
