What is Product-Qualified Lead (PQL)?

A Product-Qualified Lead (PQL) is a user who has experienced the value of a product through a free trial or freemium version and has performed specific actions that indicate a high likelihood of purchasing. Unlike traditional leads, PQLs are defined by their actual product engagement.

Why It Matters

  • PQLs typically have much higher conversion rates than leads qualified only by marketing or sales criteria.

  • They allow sales teams to focus their efforts on users who are already active and seeing value.

  • Identifying PQL criteria helps product teams design better “aha moments” in the user journey.
