PIN Debit
What is PIN Debit?
PIN debit is a type of transaction where a customer uses their debit card and enters a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to authorize the payment. These transactions are processed through electronic funds transfer (EFT) networks rather than card networks.
Because they require a secret code, PIN debit transactions are highly secure and have very low rates of fraud. They also typically result in lower fees for merchants compared to signature-based debit or credit cards.
Why It Matters
-
Offers a high level of security by requiring a customer-known secret
-
Generally carries lower processing costs for the merchant
-
Provides immediate authorization and faster settlement of funds
-
Reduces the risk of chargebacks as the customer’s identity is verified by PIN
