# How BeePOP Took Its First Global Payment on Launch Day With Dodo Payments

> After years running an e-commerce business and producing product content by hand, BeePOP's founders turned that experience into an AI platform. The real challenge wasn't finding customers, it was finding a way to sell to them from China.

## The Company

**Turning a designer's bottleneck into an AI platform**

BeePOP began with a problem its founders faced themselves.

They ran an e-commerce business, and producing product content for marketplaces like Amazon was slow and expensive. A skilled designer managed around two standard content sets a day. A premium set could take a month.

BeePOP was built to break that. The platform pairs AI product understanding with a structured, reviewable Canvas workflow.

It doesn't replace designers. It organises their assets, generates concepts, and lets them iterate far faster, taking a designer from roughly two content sets a day to around twenty.

Today BeePOP serves sellers, design teams, and brand managers across Amazon, Shopify, Target, and Walmart. More than 10,000 users have registered since the 1.0 release, most of them outside mainland China.

## The Challenge

### A global product, and four problems that had nothing to do with the product

BeePOP was built for an international market from the first day. That created a set of problems the engineering team had no interest in owning.

International tax came first. Selling software worldwide means VAT, GST, US sales tax, invoicing rules, and filings that differ by country and change over time.

Then there was getting the money home. Collecting internationally is only half the job, revenue still has to arrive in a Chinese corporate bank account, reliably and repeatedly.

Buyers also had to be able to pay. Overseas customers expect cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. Mainland customers expect Alipay.

And for an AI company, there was platform risk. AI businesses have a reputation for being flagged, frozen, or shut down by payment providers. BeePOP treated that as a live risk from the beginning, not something to discover after launch.

An overseas entity, notably, was never the blocker. BeePOP already had a US operating company. The gap was running payments, tax, compliance, and payouts on top of it, without pulling anyone off the product.

> "As a startup team, we never planned to build a payment system from scratch. We believe the best way to enter the market is to focus on what we do best: helping users become more productive."
>
> -- BeePOP Founding Team

The team evaluated Stripe, Paddle, and Lemon Squeezy, and reached a quick conclusion. For a startup, a Merchant of Record was the fastest route to global payments.

## The Solution

### A Merchant of Record that already understood AI businesses

BeePOP chose Dodo Payments as its Merchant of Record.

As MoR, Dodo is the seller of record on every transaction. That means Dodo, not BeePOP, carries the payment processing, tax calculation and collection, invoicing, and compliance obligations that come with selling worldwide.

What separated Dodo was its focus. Other providers treat AI companies as an elevated-risk category to be managed. Dodo builds for them as the core customer.

For a team that had named platform risk as a founding concern, that was decisive. Pricing and feature fit pointed the same way, as did a recommendation from someone the founders trusted.

> "Dodo's focus on payments for AI products was closely aligned with BeePOP's positioning. That product-market fit was the main factor that set Dodo apart for us."

BeePOP went live accepting bank cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay, with cards the most used method. Alipay covers mainland customers. None of it required BeePOP to integrate a payment method itself.

## The Implementation

### Approved and live faster than the alternatives

Before integration mattered at all, BeePOP had to be verified and approved to accept live payments.

For a China-based business, that is usually the longest step. It sits ahead of every line of code, and it sets the earliest date revenue can start arriving.

This is where Dodo separated itself first. Measured against the other platforms BeePOP had assessed, Dodo's onboarding was materially faster: requirements specified upfront, and Dodo's team working through verification alongside the founders rather than leaving them in a queue.

The effect was commercial, not administrative. BeePOP started collecting revenue sooner than it would have anywhere else.

Chinese-language support mattered more than expected. It let BeePOP's developers confirm requirements and resolve issues without a translation layer in between.

The team received its first payment on the same day BeePOP went live.

> "We initially considered Stripe, so we did have some hesitation about choosing a newer platform. During our evaluation, Dodo's pricing and feature set appeared to be a better fit for our product. The recommendation from someone we trusted gave us additional confidence."

## The Results

### Payments stopped being a problem to solve

With Dodo as Merchant of Record, payments went from something BeePOP's team would have had to build and maintain to infrastructure that was simply there on day one.

### A working payment system on launch day

BeePOP's first payment arrived the same day the product went live. The infrastructure was ready before the product was.

### Global immediately, not country by country

Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Alipay were live from the start. No phased market rollout, and no engineering project per payment method.

### Revenue reaching China

Three payouts have settled into BeePOP's Chinese corporate bank account, with Dodo handling collection, tax, and invoicing upstream of every one.

### Tax and compliance off the roadmap

As Merchant of Record, Dodo carries the international tax, invoicing, and compliance obligations. BeePOP has never had to staff for them, and the impact shows up in its own numbers: designers moving from two content sets a day to twenty, and 10,000+ registered users since 1.0.

> "Without Dodo, we would most likely have continued evaluating Stripe, which could have delayed our global launch and added operational complexity. For an AI startup in China, Dodo is a practical partner for launching global payments quickly, with responsive support and a strong understanding of AI businesses."
>
> -- BeePOP Founding Team

For BeePOP, going global was never about building a bigger payments operation. It was about removing payments from the list of things the team had to build at all. With Dodo as Merchant of Record, BeePOP launched worldwide, collected its first payment on day one, settled revenue into a Chinese corporate account, and kept every engineer focused on the thing customers actually pay for.
