Hello from Dodo Payments,

It feels like we’re approaching a real inflection point.

dodo-digest

Over the past few months, more and more of you have trusted Dodo Payments to power your monetisation, and that momentum hasn’t happened by accident. It’s the result of steady, deliberate work from the team to build a payments and billing platform that actually removes friction for global founders.

One tangible outcome of that work is the expansion of our local payment methods. We’ve added several new options recently, which you’ll see below.

Our core belief has always been simple: Dodo Payments should be a sharp, reliable tool that helps you scale revenue globally. Local payment methods play a critical role here. When customers can pay using what they already trust, conversion improves. Friction drops. Businesses grow faster.

This focus on local methods is already what makes Dodo Payments one of the most diverse Merchant of Record platforms in the market, and we’re not stopping anytime soon.

You can explore our existing local payment methods here.

And then came a moment that made us pause and think.

With Y Combinator’s recent announcement around stablecoins, a new question surfaced internally: if stablecoins are becoming acceptable for founders to receive funding, how long before they become mainstream for customer payments too?

Should stablecoins be part of Dodo Payments?

We’d genuinely love your perspective. Just reply to this email and tell us what you think.

This month, we’re seeing a broader shift in how startups think about money, not just how customers pay, but how founders receive, move, and manage capital in a global-first world.

YC Embraces Stablecoins for Founder Funding

On February 3rd, Y Combinator announced it will allow founders to receive their funding in stablecoins, specifically USDC and other USD-pegged cryptocurrencies. The move generated significant discussion on Hacker News, with over 140 comments debating the practical implications.

The rationale? Lower transaction fees (fractions of a cent vs. traditional wire transfer fees), 24/7 availability, and flexibility for international founders. YC Group Partner Garry Tan noted,

"Stablecoins is one of the key pillars for us. We want to live and breathe that as well."

The reality? Most YC startups will likely convert stablecoins to USD immediately through their business bank accounts. But the infrastructure is being built and once it's normalized at the funding level, it's only a matter of time before it cascades to customer payments.

Coming Soon: Credit-Based Billing

Speaking of building, we're launching credit-based billing in the next few weeks. Let customers buy credit packs upfront, burn them down as they use your service, and auto-top-up when running low. Perfect for AI APIs, developer tools, and any service where usage is unpredictable.

It's all built into Dodo's existing billing engine—no separate systems, no reconciliation nightmares. Just credits that actually make sense.

P.S. Congrats to Cardboard Inc. on their launch- An agentic video editor that turns raw footage into first cuts in minutes. No Premiere Pro required. Great work, Saksham Aggarwal and Ishan Sharma!
